Proposed Specifications for Ductile-Iron Restrained Joint Fittings for use on Ductile Iron and Poly-Vinyl Chloride Pipe.

SCOPE  This specification covers ductile-iron restrained join fittings 3 inches through 12 inches in size designed and manufactured for use with ductile-iron or poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) pipe.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

a.  Ductile iron restrained joint fittings shall be designed with the restraint system as an integral part of the fitting and shall be for use interchangeably on ductile iron pipe conforming to ANSW/AWWA C151/A21.51 and PVC pipe conforming to AWWA C900.

b.  Fittings shall be manufactured of ductile iron conforming to the requirements of ASTM A 536 grade 65-45-12.

c.  Gaskets shall be EPDM and in all respects conform to the requirement of ASTM F 477 and Table 8 of ANSI/AWWA C111-A21.11.

d.  Fitting shall be sierra red fusion-bonded epoxy coated inside and outside with minumum of 6 mils thickness meeting all of the requirements of AWWA C116.

e.  Fittings, including the joints and restraints systems, shall have a minimum pressure rating of 350 psi. unless a change in pressure rating is directed by purchase documents.

f.  The joint shall be tested on both ductile iron and PVC pipe using the procedures found in ASTM F 1674, including a short term high pressure test, a sustained pressure test, and a cyclic surge test, and shall be capable of being assembled without beveling a cut pipe.

g.  Joint dimensions and weight shall be standard and as shown in the One-Bolt, Inc. bulletins entitled "One Bolt, Fittings", or approval equal.

APPROVED MANUFACTURES  One Bolt, Inc.

One Bolt fittings are manufactured of ductile-iron pipe grade 60-45-12 and
comply with the applicable requirements of the following standards and
specifications:

1. ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 American National Standard for Ductile Iron Compact Fittings, 3 in. Through 24 in., and 54 in. Through 64 in., for Water Service. One Bolt Fittings meet all the material, thickness and performance requirements of C153. One Bolt fittings utilize a patented proprietary joint. Dimensions for fittings with this joint are not included in C153. However the standard provides for and may be used with fittings having other joints if agreed upon at the time of purchase. The standard requires that a test of three times the rated pressure of thefitting be conducted on one 90 degree bend and one equal opening tee of each size. One Bolt fittings are rated at 350 psi, therefore the required pressure is 1050 psi. The test is complete for the 6" size and will be conductedon each size and required configurations as they become available.

2. ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 American National Standard for Rubber-Gasket Joints for Ductile Iron Pressure Pipe and Fittings. AWWA C111 covers mechanical joints, push-on joints and modified mechanical joints for usewith ductile-iron pipe and fittings only. It does not address the requirements of any other joints nor any other pipe materials. The One Bolt joint is neither a mechanical joint nor a push-on joint. One Bolt meets or exceeds all applicable C111 joint performance requirements as well as rubber properties and test requirements for gasket materials. This standard requires that the joint be tested to twice the pressure on each size. The rated pressure of the joint is 350 psi in 4" - 12" sizes. A pressure test of at least 700 psi has been conducted on every size on both PVC and Ductile-Iron pipe using only the restraint feature to resist end thrust. This meets the requirement of U.L. 194 standard for restrained joints. U.L. Listing and F.M. Approval will be obtained as soon as all sizes are available for testing.
